Bittersweet.

Last Thursday, we handed over the keys to our home to the new buyer.  We are very lucky that our house sold so quickly (3 weeks!), and without a realtor, which meant we could pocket all of the profits. Sweet!

However, it was very bittersweet. This is a home we bought fresh out of college, right before we got married. We were young, in love, and excited to make our first house a home. Jeff put an offer on this house while I was away at a family wedding in Dallas. Yes, he bought the house without me! Luckily, I approved of the house when I returned...it was a good size, good location, and the right price. The house was a horrific lovely shade of robin's egg blue, that matched the entry tile. We Jeff did a total remodel of the main bathroom, we refinished hardwood floors in two of the bedrooms, replaced carpet and entry tile, landscaping, and gutted the entire basement and finished that as well.

We lived in that house for close to 8 years and created many, many memories there. From getting our puppy, to bringing home our baby boy, to watching Carter take his first steps across the living room....we've made many, many sweet memories in that house and it makes me a bit sad that Carter won't remember living there at all. However, we are so excited to make new memories in this new house that we are building specifically for our family. Like a good friend recently told me, "Good thing the walls don't hold the memories!"

Foundation of a dream

We are so dang excited. Forms were put up on Monday, the walls were poured yesterday, and today they took off the forms to reveal along with the entire basement. I'll tell ya....we are learning a whole lot about this building process. Getting schooled in home building for sure.

I'm picturing the fun times we'll have in the playroom, the bar area (wine anyone?). Ironic that we have a wet bar next to the playroom? Carefully planned, my friends. Soon, very soon.

No, It's a Backhoe.

Carter sure is having fun seeing all the trucks and equipment at the building site. He even corrected me this morning on the way to work as we drove by when I called the backhoe a bulldozer. Silly me. "No, it's a backhoe, momma".

Progress today! We have footings for the basement! Hopefully the forms will be set tomorrow and we'll have walls tomorrow or the next day! Little by little...

Packing and More Packing...

I can't think of anything else I'd rather do on this lovely Sunday. *rolls eyes* Packing and moving is quite possibly the most un-fun thing EVER.

Why are we packing so soon when we only have a hole in the ground? Well, we sold our house super fast...what a blessing! In the meantime, we'll be living with my wonderful in-laws. We close May 24th!

But yeah, the packing. It's amazing how much stuff you accumulate in 8 years.

Which is why Jeff and I pinky promised that we will never move again. This will (hopefully) be our forever home.

Sigh....back to packing.

Breaking Ground

Today was awesome. Not only was it a Friday....but it was GROUND BREAKING DAY! I drove Carter by the lot around 8:00 this morning before we went to work and he was just getting started. Carter LOVED seeing the "bull bulldozer" as he calls it. They were finished digging around 12:30! So nice to finally get things rolling!

This side will need to be built up a bit...the lot slopes down this way.

Carter loved walking in the big hole!

Our Floor Plans...

Our builder showed us a plan we loved, and from there, we made changes to fit our lifestyle. I L-O-V-E the "drop zone" which will be a mudroom with cubbies and storage. Also loving the open concept, I think it will meet our needs perfectly.

Basement will be framed, and we will finish in a couple of years:

Before....

Here's a picture of our plot of land....we purchased this in August 2011. Can't wait to get going on the house! It is staked out and ready for digging the basement -- hopefully later this week!! EEK!
